Definitions

Pilates

An exercise regimen that is typically performed on a floor mat or with the use of specialized apparatus and aims to improve flexibility and stability by strengthening the muscles and especially the torso-stabilizing muscles of the abdomen and lower back.


Yoga

A system of physical postures, breathing techniques, and sometimes meditation derived from Yoga but often practiced independently especially in Western cultures to promote physical and emotional well being.


Inflammation

Swelling. A local response by the body to cellular injury that is marked by widening of the blood vessels (capillaries), the local release of white blood cells (leukocytes), redness, heat and pain, and that is designed to remove noxious agents and repair damaged tissue.


Arthroscopy

A minimally invasive surgical procedure involving visual examination of the interior of the joint with an arthroscope to diagnose or treat various conditions or injuries of a joint, and especially to repair or remove damaged or diseased tissue or bone.


Migraine

A condition marked by recurring moderate to severe headache with throbbing pain, which usually lasts between four hours and three days. It typically begins on one side of the head but may spread to both sides.

It is usually accompanied by nausea, vomitting, sensitivity to light or sound, and is sometimes preceded by an aura (flashing lights) and is often followed by fatigue.
